High Reflectance Lighting Powder Coating
Industrial-grade protective coating solutions: environmentally friendly, durable, and cost-effective.
Intro to High Reflectance Lighting Powder Coating
High Reflectance Lighting Powder Coatings are specialized, ultra-bright white finishes engineered to maximize the reflection of visible light (Luminous Reflectance), typically achieving values of 90% to 95% or higher. These coatings are primarily based on highly refined, UV-stable Polyester or Hybrid resins and use carefully selected high-purity titanium dioxide (TiO2) pigment. They are essential for interior lighting fixtures, reflectors, and light diffusers to maximize the efficiency and lumen output of the final lighting assembly.
Luminous Reflectance and Optical Purity
The performance of this coating is defined by its Total Luminous Reflectance (TLR), measured using spectrophotometers according to standards like ASTM E903 or ASTM E1347. To achieve the highest possible reflectance, two factors are critical: 1) Pigment Quality: The TiO2 pigment must be of the highest optical purity, with minimal contaminants that would absorb visible light. 2) Film Surface: The cured film must be smooth, defect-free, and resistant to yellowing from the heat of the lighting source (thermal stability). The slightest yellowing or contamination will drastically reduce the TLR. Using a high-reflectance coating can significantly reduce the number of light sources or power needed to achieve a target lux level, offering substantial long-term energy savings and improved light quality.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- Q: Does the high reflectance coating need to be high gloss?
- A: High gloss is common because it generally maximizes specular reflection, but a semi-gloss or matte finish can also achieve high total luminous reflectance if formulated correctly, often providing better light diffusion.
- Q: Does this coating resist UV light since it's used in lighting fixtures?
- A: Yes. Many high-efficiency light sources (especially LED) produce some UV light. The coating must be UV stable (Polyester/Hybrid) to prevent degradation and loss of reflectance over time.
- Q: Can the total luminous reflectance be guaranteed?
- A: Yes. High-reflectance coatings are specified and guaranteed based on stringent laboratory testing, providing reliable data for lighting engineers to use in photometric calculations.
Selection Guide: High Reflectance Lighting
Select High Reflectance Lighting Powder Coating when:
- The component is an internal reflector or housing of a lighting fixture where light efficiency is critical.
- The design requires a guaranteed Total Luminous Reflectance (TLR) of 90% or greater.
- The finished product must resist thermal yellowing from the heat generated by the light source.
- The goal is to maximize energy efficiency and light output without sacrificing color purity.
- The coating must be an ultra-bright white color to serve as the optical surface.
