Advantages and disadvantages of powder coatings and solvent coatings

Update:07 Aug,2020

Advantage

Powder coatings do not contain organic solvents, which can avoid environmental pollution, fire hazards, waste of organic solvents and human health caused by organic solvents; powder coatings do not contain water, and can also avoid the problems of water pollution like water-based coatings. .

The biggest feature of powder coating is that the sprayed coating can be recycled and reused, and the effective utilization rate of the coating is high. If the recycling efficiency of the recycling equipment is high, the utilization rate of the powder coating can reach 99%.

The coating production efficiency of powder coatings is high. One coating can reach the thickness of a few to ten coatings of solvent-based or water-based coatings.

The coating of powder coatings is not affected by the temperature and season, does not require very skilled coating technology, it is easy to master the coating technology, and it is easy to realize automatic assembly line coating.

Disadvantage

The production and coating of powder coatings require special equipment, and the production and coating equipment of solvent-based and water-based coatings cannot be used directly.

In the production and coating process of powder coatings, changing the color and variety of the coating is more troublesome than solvent-based and water-based coatings.

Powder coating is not suitable for thin coating, only for thick coating.

The baking temperature of powder coatings is high, most of which are above 180°C. Except for UV-curable powder coatings, most varieties are not suitable for heat-sensitive objects such as plastic, wood and paper with poor heat resistance.

Powder coatings are considered to be 4E-type coating products with high production efficiency (efficiency), excellent film performance (excellency), eco-environmental protection (ecology) and economy (economy), and are developing fastest in various coating varieties.
